Transporters at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) refused to operate, leaving students stranded on campus. The transporters cited the ongoing fuel scarcity for their decision to increase the normal transport price.
Earlier in the day, there were reports of increased transport prices, with some students paying higher fares to travel from nearby areas like Mayfair, Sabo, and Lagere to campus.
However, events on campus, including the Living Springs Praise Worship and a movie show at Oduduwa Hall, kept many students on campus, leading to a surge in demand for transportation later in the evening.
Due to the unavailability of buses, some motorcyclists took advantage of the situation and inflated their prices.
Those who could not afford it, trekked from campus to gate.
According to an eyewitness, “One motorcyclist demanded N500 to transport students from campus to the gate, while another student offered to pay N1,000 to leave campus that night.
As a result, many students had no choice but to trek from campus to the gate. However, buses suddenly began operating again, conveying students.
In addition, on Sunday, April 28, long queues formed at Matrix Filling Station as vehicles and motorcycles waited to refuel.
The fuel shortage that began on Wednesday, has affected several states, including Osun, where many fuel stations have closed due to a lack of petrol.
Desperate residents seeking fuel for their vehicles and bikes flocked to Matrix Filling Station, located near Ojaja More, one of the few stations still operating during this period.
This led to a lengthy queue of vehicles and motorcycles, patiently awaiting their turn.
The situation has left many wondering where to turn for fuel, as the scarcity continues to disrupt daily life activities in the state.
