The 50 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and 20 tricycles donated to Obafemi Awolowo University by Senator Oluremi Tinubu on January 29, 2026, are set to commence operations on campus soon.
The donation was made by the Senator-cum-First Lady, an alumna of the university’s Faculty of Education, as part of efforts to improve transportation within the institution.
Many students have expressed curiosity about when the new buses will begin operating. In a notice from the Great Ife Students’ Union Transport Management Commission, students were informed that they will soon experience a new and improved transport system.
According to the commission, introducing the CNG buses will provide a safer, cleaner, and more reliable mode of transportation for students to move around campus.
The commission also stated that the implementation of the new CNG buses will lead to cessation of operations by bike riders and commercial buses currently transporting students within the campus. This change is part of the university’s efforts to make transportation more organised and efficient for everyone.
In addition, the new buses will extend services to Road 7, working alongside the existing Road 7 shuttle system.
The Transport Management Commission assured students that all necessary arrangements are being put in place to ensure a smooth and successful transition to the new transportation system.

Students are therefore advised to prepare for the changes and adapt to the new transport system once operations begin.
