On Tuesday, 29th of September 2026, Obafemi Awolowo University released its proposed academic calendar for the upcoming 2026/2027 academic session. Outlining key dates like resumption, registration, matriculation etc.
Harmattan Semester
According to the proposed calendar for the harmattan semester, freshmen in the Faculty of Administration, Arts, EDM, Education, Law, and Social Sciences are expected to come into residence on the 31st of October.
While freshmen in the Faculty of Agriculture, Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Computing Science and Engineering,Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, Science, and Technology are expected to come into residence on November 1st.
Online course registration is scheduled to begin on November 2nd, while orientation for fresh students will take place from November 2nd to 6th. ICT training for fresh students is scheduled for November 9th to 13th, as returning undergraduate students are expected to resume on November 15th, 2026. Lectures for the Harmattan Semester are scheduled to begin on November 16th.
Normal course registration is expected to close on November 20th, followed by a late registration period with penalty from December 14th to 18th. The calendar also includes matriculation on December 3rd and convocation from December 9th to 12th.
The Harmattan Semester is scheduled to run through February 26th 2027, when lectures are expected to end. This will be followed by a revision/lecture-free week from March 1th to 5th, with examinations scheduled to begin on March 8th and end on March 27th.
Students are expected to have a break from April 5th to 17th 2027, before the commencement of the Rain Semester.

Rain Semester
Online registration for the Rain Semester is scheduled to begin on April 15th, while all students are expected to resume on April 17th. Rain Semester lectures are scheduled to begin on April 19th.
The Rain Semester is expected to run until July 17th 2027, followed by a lecture-free week from July 19th to 23th. Rain Semester examinations are scheduled to begin on July 26th and end on August 13th.
The calendar also provides for activities including Students’ Week, scheduled for June 14th to 18th 2027, as well as the Students Innovation Exhibition and Pitching/Celebration of Academic and Research Excellence from August 16th to 27th.
For students in non-clinical programmes, resit examinations for 100-level and final-year students are scheduled for September 13th to 17th 2027. The 2026/2027 academic session is scheduled to officially end on September 30th 2027, with the 2027/2028 academic session expected to begin on October 11th 2027.
The proposed calendar therefore spans almost the entire year, with students expected to navigate two semesters, examinations, registration periods and other academic activities before the conclusion of the session in September 2027.
