On Tuesday, 13th January 2026, the management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, declared Wednesday, 14th January and Thursday, 15th January 2026 as lecture-free days for all newly-admitted students of the university.
According to a special release endorsed by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, K.A. Bakare, the purpose of this is to enable all freshmen to complete their document verification and clearance process in their individual faculties in preparation for their matriculation ceremony on Thursday, 15th January 2026.

Furthermore, all new students are expected to ensure payment of the appropriate fees before the matriculation ceremony, as students who fail to do so may not be permitted to participate in the ceremony.
Copies of this release were procedurally communicated to the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Deans, Directors, the Students’ Union President and other principal officers of the university. The release did not specify that returning students would be beneficiaries of the lecture-free days.
