The Department of Political Science emerged victorious in the final match of the sixth edition of the Departmental Freshers Cup (DFC 6.0), defeating the CSC Titans with a convincing 2-0 win on Monday at the OAU MainBowl.
The final, attended by a large crowd of students and supporters, featured skillful Odisplays, tactical discipline, and high-intensity football from both teams. However, it was the Elite FC of Political Science that asserted their dominance by scoring two goals.
In the third-place playoff earlier in the day, Animal Science narrowly defeated BCH Helix 1-0 to secure the bronze position. This tightly contested match saw Animal Science take advantage of the opportunity to clinch victory and end their tournament on a high note.
The grand finale wrapped up what has been one of the most competitive and dramatic editions of the DFC tournament in recent years.
Standout performances throughout the tournament were acknowledged with individual awards. Ahamdu Ahmed of Political Science was named the Best Goalkeeper of the tournament, thanks to his crucial saves that played a significant role in his team’s path to the trophy.
In an exclusive post-match interview, Ahamdu expressed his thoughts on the team’s historic win: “Winning the Best Goalkeeper award and seeing my team lift the trophy is an incredible feeling. I feel a deep sense of pride and satisfaction knowing that all the hard work paid off,” he stated. “This award validates my efforts and motivates me to strive for more. What makes it even more special is sharing this moment with my teammates, it’s a memory that will last forever.”
Reflecting on the team’s journey, Ahamdu revealed that the path to victory was challenging: “Honestly, when we started, I didn’t think we would make it this far. We faced a ban initially, had clashes with officials, and three of our players received red cards—I almost got one too,” he laughed. “But despite all that, we remained focused and united. Everyone understood the goal. God helped us, and here we are—champions.”
