The AllRoundHer Conference impacted young females in the OAU community. The event, held on July 25, in Ajose Lecture Theatre, kicked off at 01:10 p.m., with an opening prayer led by Whitney Michaels, the current Miss OAU and convener of the event.
The programme accommodated honourable guests including Gloria Effiong popularly known as Riayung, a content creator; Dr Ayorinde Adebello, a leadership and personal development speaker; Ifeoluwa Adebayo, a finance educator and advocate; Omotunde Allwell who spoke on education; and Christiana Odedeji, the former Vice President of the OAU Students’ Union.
Keynote Address
During his keynote address, Dr Ayorinde Adebello emphasised the importance of making an impact that goes beyond outward appearance. He said, ‘Beauty fails, impact never fails.’ He also spoke on the necessity attached to good physical health and paying mind to the ‘God factor.’
Riayung: From Itel Phone Videos to Christian Content
In an interview with Riayung, she spoke on her content creation journey and how she began shooting using an Itel phone. She also discussed her Christianity journey and how her content gained more traction on social media when she transitioned from making secular content to Christian-centred content.
When asked about possible scenarios of her contemplating compromising her Christian values to post secular-based content she admitted thinking about taking a deal with a betting platform which she later rejected. She advised that ladies should step out of their comfort zone and start small in content creation.
‘Learn a Skill to Make Money’ – Adebayo
Building on that, Ifeoluwa Adebayo spoke about how our environment influences how we think. She advised that one needs to understand how money works to make money. She also mentioned that in order to make money one needs to be a solution provider.
‘Making money is not hard but you need to learn a skill,’ she advised.
Panel: Faith, Politics & Academics
During the panel session, Omotunde Allwell and Christiana Odedeji discussed the importance of the fear of God while being involved in campus politics and knowing when to focus on academic activities and extracurricular activities.
When asked on how they juggled school and other extracurricular activities together without one suffering, Allwell stated that, ‘It was about not allowing yourself to fall short of expectations.’ She also pointed out that, ‘you should not allow the expectations to be your only drive because you will just be living to please people.’
Christiana answered that it was due to her love for excellence. She also stated, ‘leadership for me is a service,’ highlighting how she preferred to lead by example.
Award & Closing Remarks
The organiser presented an award to each speaker. Participants displayed their creativity in the form of dance performances and spoken word presentations. The event ended at about 4:40 p.m. with a vote of thanks from Whitney Michaels.
