ACJ-OAU Celebrates 50th Anniversary And Alumni Reunion

 

The Association of Campus Journalists, Obafemi Awolowo University (ACJ-OAU) on Saturday 6th May 2023, held a conference in celebration of the 50th Anniversary and launch of the Alumni body. This event took place at the Ajose Lecture Theatre of the Faculty of Agriculture and was graced by the presence of veteran keynote speakers and panellists. 

More than 100 students were in attendance as the program kicked off some minutes after 10:00 am. The keynote speaker Dapo Olorunyomi was represented by Mr Alabi opened his keynote address by speaking on “Media Literacy and Digitalization.” 

He talked about the media’s 3 major roles in any democratic setting which are to serve as a watchdog of society, set agenda for the government and provide access to news information.  

The guest speaker, Ebuka Ogbodo stated that journalist is the newspaper records. Also, urge journalists not to seek people’s validation. 

The panel session was an interactive one that sought to answer questions about the past, present and future of journalism. They talked about how we can curb false news from spreading, have a verification desk before publishing for each media platform, seek expertise in the field and protect the image of your school. 

Amongst the panellists are, Lekan Otunfodurin, Executive Director, of the Media Career Development Network, Olufisoye Adenitan, Journalist, Radio Nigeria, Kabir Adejumo, Assistant Investigations Editor, HumAngle Media.

    To even have experts in the field of journalism present for the occasion means a lot to student journalism.
