Benin Republic Frees Sunday Igboho From Detention

Mr Sunday Adeyemo, who is popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has been reportedly released from detention in the Benin Republic. The renowned Yoruba activist was handed over to Professor Banji Akintoye, the leader of Nation Group today. The Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, a group that agitates for the interest of Yoruba people across the whole world has said that Sunday Igboho has been handed over to them by the government of the Benin Republic.

It should be recalled that Mr Sunday Adeyemo was arrested in Benin Republic alongside his wife when he was about to flee the country to Germany at Cardinal Bernardin International Airport, Cotonou, in July 2021. Since then the Yoruba activist has been remanded in the Benin Republic as a suspect with several court hearings in the country.

Sunday Igboho, 49, fled Nigeria in 2021 when he was declared wanted by the Federal Government of Nigeria. He fled to the Benin Republic and wanted to abscond to Germany before he was caught and detained in the Benin Republic.

This was made known to the public by the Communication Secretary to the Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Mr Maxwell Adeleye said that Igboho was released to him alongside Professor Wale Adeniran. Mr Maxwell Adeleye further concluded that the release of Sunday Igboho is a victory for all Yorubas around the world.
