Russia defence ministry earlier announced a partial ceasefire Saturday to allow humanitarian corridors for the residents of the Ukrainian cities, Mariupol and Volnovakha, that were surrounded by Russian forces.
According to Business Today, “From 1000 am Moscow time (0700 GMT), the Russian side declares a ceasefire and the opening of humanitarian corridors to allow civilians to leave Mariupol and Volnovakha,” Russian news agencies quoted the Russian defence ministry as saying.
The announcement came as the war entered 10th day on Saturday with Russian forces attacking a European state, the biggest since World War Two.
The war created a barrage of sanctions that increasingly isolates Russia, created over a million refuges and fears in the West it might escalate to a global conflict.
Russia says it’s invasion is a “special operation” to capture those it considers dangerous nationalist, and denies targeting civilians.
Ukraine’s state service of special communication and protection claims Russian forces have focused efforts on surrounding Kyiv and Kharkiv while aiming to establish a land bridge to Crimea.
12.40 p.m local time, Mariupol City Council said shelling by Russian forces continued and it postponed its evacuation of population.
According to Europe Politics, “Due to the fact that the Russian side does not adhere to the ceasefire and continued shelling both Mariupol and its environs, for security
