As the league cup final (carabao cup) was on between Chelsea and Liverpool football teams at 9:00pm on Sunday 27th of February some set of fans gathered together in a liquor joint at Karbala west along the Nandi Azikiwe western bypass on Kaduna south local government area, Nigeria to watch the match. The owner of the joint suspected an improvised explosives device (IED) somewhere around the shop that fateful night.
On Monday, the perplexed joint owner Mr Larry Nuhu gave a report to the nearest police station as it was to late to go to the station the previous night. The police invited some bomb detecting experts and nullified the object then moved it to their station.
Mr Larry stated “I discovered an object wrapped in a black bad with a power unit connected to it, the type motorcycle uses but this morning, the state commissioner of police of Kaduna state came with some men who are middle experts to evacuate the object”
At the moment, Samuel Aruban, the state commissioner of internal security and home affairs in the company with the Garrison commander, a mechanized division, Nigeria Army Kaduna paod an on the spot gauging visit to the location of the incident on Monday evening.
The commissioner recommended that the owner of the joint put up personal security in the area.
The owner of the joint further stated that on the day of the incident at 9:30pm, one of his staff came to him and told him of a man that came with a bag, dropped it on the floor and left.
Mr Larry said he took a bold step by looking at the content of the bag,onlooking at the inside of the bag, he saw cables, negative and positive and he noticed it might be a dangerous object.
He said another thought came to him to move the object away from home the midst of people to prevent maximum damage if at all the bomb will explode. So the next morning, he called JTF who invited the police.
Eventually, bomb experts came to certify that the object was indeed a bomb so they took it away. Mr Larry said there were over 80 people watching the football match at that moment.
The state commissioner of internal security and home affairs, Samuel Aruban enjoined the residents to always be at alert and be watchful of explosive devices planted by terrorists in the state. He advised quarry operators in the state to the enhance security around their sites and to make sure that explosive materials should be properly kept.
