The highly anticipated inter-departmental debate competition organised by the Education Students’ Association of Nigeria (ESAN) has concluded, with the Department of Educational Foundation and Counselling (EFC) emerging as the champion.
EFC was represented by Omikunle Taye Favour and Oduwole Shalom, who showcased exceptional debating skills and effective strategies to outsmart their opponents. In an interview with InFocus News Agency, Omikunle attributed their success to their unified corporate dress code and confident gestures, which they believed distinguished them from the other competitors.
The Department of Adult Education and Lifelong Learning (ALL) secured the position of first runner-up, represented by Adebayo Mary Oyinkansola. Adebayo argued on the topic, “Is the removal of fuel subsidy in Nigeria a necessary step towards economic stability, or a burden on the poor?” She displayed a thorough understanding of the issue, presenting her arguments clearly and confidently. When asked about her motivation for participating, Adebayo credited Nigeria’s resilience and determination, emphasizing the importance of considering multiple perspectives on an issue.
The Department of Educational Management (EDM), represented by Adelakun Kehinde Ifeoluwa and Balogun Ifeoluwa, achieved the second runner-up position. In their interviews, both Adelakun and Balogun shared their expectations, the challenges they faced, and the lessons learned during the competition. They highlighted the value of encouragement, preparation, and overcoming nervousness, emphasizing the significance of teamwork and collaboration.
