Talented OAU singer, songwriter, and rapper Adejuwon Victory Adeyemi, known as Kryztal, released his new track, Bloodline. Dropping the sizzling track two days after the Christmas celebration, Kryztal emphasises the importance of family and connection to our loved ones in this rendition that features his brother, ADJ.
The song explores themes of perseverance and the stronghold of familial links, blending musical genres to birth an extraordinary opus.
In an interview with an InFocus News Agency correspondent, Kryztal discloses the influence that sparked this new sound:
What inspired this song?
This song was inspired by my personal experiences and observations of life. I stayed off music for a long while due to some personal reasons but now I’m back, lol. I faced many challenges, still I drew from the emotions and struggles that many of us face, from self-doubt to perseverance and hope. I wanted to capture the essence of resilience, vibrance, and authenticity. The song ‘Bloodline’ is a collaboration between me and my younger brother, ADJ. The song says more about the power of blood and bloodline.
How do you want listeners to feel when they hear this song? What message do you want them to take away from it?
When listeners hear this song, I want them to feel a sense of connection. I hope they resonate with the emotions and themes expressed in the lyrics. The message I want to convey is one of hope and encouragement that nothing is stronger than a family bond. Family above all, always and forever – that despite the challenges we face, we have the strength to overcome them and emerge stronger. I want listeners to take away a sense of empowerment and motivation to pursue their passions and dreams.
What was the songwriting process like for this track?
The songwriting process for this track was organic and collaborative. I started by brainstorming ideas and themes, drawing from my personal experiences and observations. I then worked with a producer to develop the melody and instrumentation. We experimented with different sounds and styles, blending elements of Afrobeat, hip-hop, and R&B to create a unique fusion. The lyrics style focuses on storytelling and emotional authenticity. The entire process took several weeks, with multiple revisions and refinements until we were satisfied with the final product.
How does the OAU community contribute to the kind of sounds you put out?
The OAU community has been instrumental in shaping my sound. Being surrounded by talented musicians, artists, and creatives has inspired me to experiment with different genres and styles. The campus’s vibrant energy has also influenced my lyrics, which often reflect the experiences and stories of those around me. The OAU community’s support and encouragement have given me the confidence to pursue my musical ambitions.
What’s your take on the current state of entertainment (particularly, music) on the OAU campus?
I believe the current state of entertainment on the OAU campus is thriving. There’s a growing community of talented artists, musicians, and creatives who are pushing the boundaries of innovation and excellence. The campus provides a unique platform for artists to showcase their talents, collaborate with others, and gain exposure. However, I also think there’s room for improvement – more resources and support systems could be put in place to help artists develop their skills and reach a wider audience.
