Institute of Entreprenuership Hosts 2024 Guest Lecture

The Institute of Entrepreneurship and Development Studies hosts 2024 guest lecture series with the theme, Principles and Practices of Entrepreneurship and Self-Employment.

The guest lecturer, Mr. Opeyemi Agbaje, the founder and CEO of RTD Advisory Services Ltd; the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Simeon Bamire; the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor J.A. Odedire; the Dean of the Faculty of Social Science, Prof. A. A. Akanni; and the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof. E. A. Oladimeji, among other important dignitaries, who graced the occasion.

The Director of IFEDS, Prof. O. Yinusa, in his welcome address expressed his appreciation to everyone present at this year edition of guest lecture.

Yinusa spoke on the institute’s plans to start a lot of development to ensure that they train students.

He noted the current level of unemployment in Nigeria and the fact that the nation’s population will double in the coming years. He pointed out that it will be a strategic move to think about entrepreneurship, set up businesses, and start-ups as individuals, and one of the important steps they have taken is to make a special elective course, SEO 003, compulsory for the university.

The Vice Chancellor spoke on the value of technology in anything a student does, emphasizing the importance of data in any area of specialisation.

The guest lecturer, Mr. Opeyemi Agbaje, an alumnus of OAU, made a reflection of what he called his autobiographical approach to the entrepreneurial journey. He narrated his journey from being an OAU graduate to his NYSC journey in Benin and how he had aspired to become a lawyer.

Mr. Opeyemi noted that curiosity is an important attribute of entrepreneurship. He shared details of his life’s journey that led him to become an entrepreneur.

He stated that he learned relationship management and marketing while he worked at GT Bank, which were the important elements of preparation for him to craft the business model he wanted to operate.
