OAU inaugurates SUG after four years

Roughly six months after the election, OAU Inaugurates SUG after four years of suspension on the 8th of March, 2022 at the Great Amphitheatre, OAU.

The event started some minutes to 12 noon, with the recitation of the school Anthem and second stanza of the Nigeria anthem.

Afterwards, the elected officers filed into the building, with standing Ovation from the elated students.

In attendance, was the VC, OAU, Professor Eyitope ogunbodede, Deputy VC administration, Prof. yomi Daramola, the school Registrar, Mrs. Omosule Margaret Idowu.

University librarian Dr. oguntuase, DSA, Prof Isiaka Ọlálékan Aransi, the respected Awo boys, commissioner of Police, and other dignitaries.

The DSA gave his speech, he recognized the presence of the dignitaries first, and proceeded to salute the elected SUG officers.

He wished them success in their tenure, praised the VC for organizing a four- days retreat to train the elected officers.

He highlighted one of the event of the Retreat thus:

Speech of the VC, where he warned leaders against lack of financial accountability.

The VC implored the leaders to lay good examples for their followers.

Furthermore, to make the ceremony complete, a brief documentary of the election across various points of voting was projected.

To boost the leadership spirit of the officers, “Memunat Ali”, are Spoken word poet wowed the audience with her poem “Fabric of Hope”.

Where she mentioned some of the elected officers, imploring them not to disgrace OAU Community.

In addition, the VC in his speech said, “I have been here for 45 years and have experienced a lot”.

He quote, “Experience is something you cannot buy in market”- Awolowo.

When I became the VC, I promised myself that no student would loose his/ her life to demonstration.

The greatness of Ife is not because of Aluta. It is because OAU has always been at the forefront of everything good in the country.

As members of the Union, you have to be articulate and conscious. Don’t lead your students to death”, he concluded.

The elected speaker of the house Àjàyí Toheeb, took the oath  and the Constitution was presented to him.
Conclusively, Toheeb, proceeded to swear in other Officers of the SUG, and also gave his appreciatory speech.
